McPherson Virtual

McPherson Public Schools is excited to announce our district's new endeavor to better serve local students. Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, McPherson Public Schools is offering a virtual program for select 9th-12th grade students.

This program provides a unique, local touch to the virtual school option.

Slots in this program will be limited. Please review the below Frequently Asked Questions to learn more and submit an interest form.

Frequently Asked Questions

The program is provided in partnership with ESSDACK Connect to offer a virtual school experience to select McPherson district residents in grades 9-12. It is designed as an alternative to a traditional in-person high school experience.

On-site and direct, in-person support are available as needed. Since the program is focused on McPherson district residents, the teaching team is better able to connect in person and directly with the students to provide needed support.

Field trips and other social opportunities will be provided throughout the year.

A parent council will be formed to allow families to have a voice in the day-to-day experience of the school.

Full time students will receive a laptop as a part of the program.

Coursework can be tailored to individual learners needs

Lessons are designed to be very interactive

Scheduling options are flexible to best fit the needs of the learner.

Students are eligible to participate in non-KSHAA sponsored events (clubs, prom etc) as long as they are in good academic standing and as a USD 418 student, they are eligible to attend after school events and activities.

Yes, students can earn a USD 418 high school diploma through the program and will have the opportunity to walk with their class, if desired.

Students who may be a good fit include those who:
  • Are familiar with a virtual school program and have a history of success
  • Are medically fragile and unable to attend in person
  • Are currently not succeeding with a traditional, in-person setting
If a student identifies with one or more of the above, they must also be highly motivated, self-directed and have strong family support.
Students participating in the McPherson Virtual program may be eligible to compete in KSHSAA activities pursuant to KSHSAA's Policy On Eligibility For Students Attending KSDE Accredited Virtual Schools. Please contact District Activities Director Shane Backhus at 620-241-9500 or [email protected] for detailed regulations in addition to completing the interest form linked below.
