Board of Education Ratifies Negotiated Agreement

McPherson, Kansas (August 17, 2026) – The McPherson Public Schools Board of Education proudly

announces the ratification of a negotiated agreement for certified staff. Teachers overwhelmingly

approved the negotiated agreement, with approximately 90% voting in favor. The agreement then

advanced to the Board for final approval.

“This is a great way to start the year with students,” said Dr. Cody Rierson, Superintendent. “The

Negotiations team worked hard to come to an agreement that really represents the Board’s

commitment to taking care of our staff, both through compensation and benefits,” Dr. Rierson added.

The newly approved salary schedule reflects a strategic investment in employee compensation, with a

modest increase to the base salary and significant increases throughout the step and column structure.

The updated schedule places needed emphasis on recognizing experience, education, and professional

growth, particularly benefiting employees who have built their careers with McPherson Public Schools.

The agreement also addresses employee health insurance following changes to the district’s health

plan. Negotiations included discussions around plan coverage and the district’s contribution toward

employee insurance costs, helping ensure staff understood how the changes would affect their overall

compensation and benefits.

The agreement was officially approved by the Board of Education during a Special Meeting on August

17, 2026. During that meeting, the Board also approved compensation increases for all other employee

groups.
